Welcome

What do sailing, warm breezes, and friendly people remind you of? No, not a weekend in the Caribbean -- The White Bear Boat Works!

Formerly Johnson Boat Works, we here at the White Bear Boat Works know a lot about sailing. And guess what? We know even more about having fun!

That’s why the White Bear Boat Works is the place to go when you’re looking to sail away—even just for an afternoon.

Whether you are one of those cutting-edge, must-have-the-latest-gadget racers or simply want to relax in the sun, we have what you are looking for. New to sailing? With our lessons, friendly staff, and extensive selection of affordable, user-friendly boats, you’ll be on your way in no time.

We’re excited about sailing, and want you to be, too! That’s why we spend so much time making sailing fun and easy for everyone. In addition to new and used sailboats for every kind of person (or, we should say, sailor—we do have some folks who are known to bring their dog or cat as crew), we offer a 160 slip marina, sailing lessons, a retail “Ship’s Store” for scow, daysailer, and keelboat parts and accessories, and a full-service fiberglass repair facility, for those inevitable nicks and dings.

Need a hard-to-find part? Want to know what the thingy that sits on the plate on the floor of the boat is for? Looking for the best tabernacle? Just ask. We are happy to help.

About Us

Formerly Johnson Boat Works, our family has been serving the needs of sailors for over 106 years and we're proud to carry on that tradition. Click here to learn more about our history.
.
Jason Brown began his illustrious Boat Works career drilling sailboat molding at the age of 5. Thanks to his great-grandfather, JO Johnson, founder of Johnson Boat Works and inventor of the world-famous racing scow, Jason grew up sailing just about everything!

After the Johnson Boat Works was sold, he and his wife Angie opened the White Bear Boat Works with a new focus: helping customers with all their sailing needs--no matter what their age, ability, or interest!

When he's not at the Boat Works, his son Ryan and daughter Tanner keep him on his toes. He also occasionally sneaks away from the Boat Works to pursue such mundane sports as iceboating (he was once clocked going 100 mph on the ice of White Bear Lake) and heli-skiing.

Angie Brown - The brains behind the business! You'd think that as an owner, she'd have the office with the best view…. Instead, she gets a great view of the parking lot!

Between yoga classes, she's busy keeping tabs on her kids…Ryan, Tanner, and Jason. On any given day at the Boat Works you may find her crunching the numbers and keeping us all organized.
