Rotted Transom and Floor Replacement

Dry rot got you down?Transom rot and floor rot are often associated. This is usually a powerboat problem because traveling over waves at high speed causes increased force on the bottom of the hull. Over time, that constant pounding causes separation between the stringers and the hull, water gets in and rot occurs. Our fiberglass experts can repair the problem before it gets out of hand. Recent Projects

1952 Wooden Class D Scow: No longer in production, the 20 foot, double rudder design Class D Scow was once one of the more popular scows built here in White Bear. As you can see from the "Before" picture at left, this boat needs a total restoration. Not a problem for the skilled artisans at WBBW!     After stretching and affixing the new deck canvas, we finished it with a couple of painstakenly-applied coats of paint. An amazing fact: The location in our shop where this boat was recanvassed is the exact spot the boat was originally canvassed in 1952!     Here's a close-up shot of tacking the canvas in place. WBBW craftsman worked directly across from each other and at the same pace in order to keep the canvas uniformly stretched. Although this was once a common task at the boat works, this is now a nearly lost art.     The finished project! In addition to a newly recanvassed deck, we refurbished all the original mahogany hardware, blonded the spars, and added all-new lines and stainless steel rigging. An interesting thing about wooden boats is that prior to the first outing of the season, they require time soaking in the water for the wood to swell and become watertight.     The finished project, ready for launch on beautiful White Bear Lake.     Owners D.R. and Jeanie Owen can't believe how fantastic their D Scow looks! They traveled all the way from Nebraska to have their boat restored by White Bear Boat Works.

Here is an example of our Fiberglass resoration. This Catalina Capri 13 wasn't properly cared for and suffered from soggy rail sections. The rotten side decks were cut out, completely re-fiberglassed, and brought back to like-new condition!     And the final result - Looks great! Just like it came from the factory.
